June 2022 – Mayor Kate Gallego LGBTQ+ Pride Month Proclamation

On June 22, 2022,

Mayor Kate Gallego made a visit to the Burton Barr Central Library on Wednesday, June 22, to view the Show Your Colors: LGBTQ+ Pride Flag Exhibit showcased at the @Central Gallery. In attendance was Brant Keeney, president of the Phoenix LGBTQ Employee Alliance (LGBTQ-EA) and staff from Phoenix Pride. Chris Christensen, curator of the exhibit and past LGBTQ-EA president, gave an in-depth tour highlighting the design concepts behind the 22 flags that are featured, told anecdotes on the Rainbow Pride flag, considered the most iconic symbol of Pride and the Phoenix connection to the Transgender Pride flag and many others.

After the tour, Mayor Gallego, a strong ally and friend to the LGBTQ community, proclaimed June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month in the City of Phoenix. She went on to say that this month we reflect on the work we do to increase awareness and establish support for our LGBTQ+ friends, family, and neighbors and urged all Phoenicians to join her in celebrating Pride Month around our city. Mike Fornelli, Executive Director with Phoenix Pride was on hand to receive the Proclamation from the Mayor.
