SUMMARY:Film Discussion - Back on Board: Greg Louganis: The Triumphs and Struggles of an Olympic Champion
DESCRIPTION:An intimate portrait of the public triumphs and private struggles of trailblazing openly gay athlete Greg Louganis. A refreshingly candid documentary about this four-time Olympic champion\, BACK ON BOARD follows Louganis for three years as he struggles with financial security and reunites with the sport he once dominated but did not feel welcome in. The threat of losing his house during the recent financial crisis forces Louganis to re-evaluate the choices\, relationships\, and missed opportunities of his career. \nBACK ON BOARD premiered on HBO in 2015 and was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2016. The film also gained critical and audience acclaim on the film festival circuit\, screening at over 40 festivals worldwide and picking up eight awards. \nKanopy Link: https://www.kanopy.com/en/phoenixpl/video/1844050 \nPHXYou Registration: LEA100-VLT-LGBTQ Film – Session 013 (Course ID #116805) \nWebEX Link will be provided through PHXYou registration.

SUMMARY:Film Discussion - Sordid Lives
DESCRIPTION:In this cult classic comedy from writer-director Del Shores\, a gay West Hollywood actor returns home to his small Texas town for his grandmother’s funeral. As we meet the three generations of his dysfunctional family\, the hilariously trashy truth of their “sordid lives” is revealed. SORDID LIVES features an all-star ensemble cast\, including Olivia Newton-John (Grease)\, Delta Burke (TV’s “Designing Women”)\, Bonnie Bedelia (TV’s “Parenthood”)\, Beau Bridges (TV’s “Masters of Sex”) and Leslie Jordan (The Help) as the Tammy Wynette-obsessed institutionalized gay uncle\, Brother Boy. The soundtrack features such country standards as “Will the Circle Be Unbroken\,” “Stand by Your Man\,” and “Get off the Cross\, We Need the Wood.” \nKanopy Link: https://www.kanopy.com/en/phoenixpl/video/6481096 \nPHXYou Registration: LEA100-VLT-LGBTQ Film – Session 012 (Course ID # 116804) \nWebEX link will be provided through the PHXYou registration.

SUMMARY:Film Discussion - Rock Hudson's Home Movies: The Life and Career of Actor Rock Hudson
DESCRIPTION:A documentary about the career and eventual death from AIDS of actor Rock Hudson. \nRock Hudson’s Home Movies is a compilation of privileged moments from various Hudson vehicles that\, in one way or another\, confirm or deny (and thus serve to reconfirm) the actor’s necessarily concealed homosexuality. \n“It was all up there\,” says Rock Hudson (Eric Farr) at the start of this rule-breaking\, dizzying assortment of clips from Rock Hudson’s Hollywood career that make up Mark Rappaport’s feature film\, ROCK HUDSON’S HOME MOVIES. Employing a narrative commentary from beyond the grave\, the film invents an eclectic form of biography. The closer you look at Hudson’s films\, the more you see the actor winking at us. An award-winning blend of dozens of clips\, ROCK HUDSON’S HOME MOVIES sheds a new and provocative light on one of Hollywood’s greatest legends. \nKanopy link: https://www.kanopy.com/en/phoenixpl/video/508706 \nPHXYou Registration: LEA100-VLT-LGBTQ Film (Course ID: 116802) \nWebEX link will be found in the PHXYou calendar invite.
